New Year's Resolutions

Over the years, Karan and I have heard many preachers and ‘prophets’ state that this year is the year of….. (fill in the blank with any religious sounding term you choose); usually claiming that God has mysteriously revealed His plan for the year to them. Most of the time, we’ve not seen those proclamations come to pass. I’m not so sure that God actually determines some special plan for civilization each year. If that was the case, then God isn’t very capable of carrying out His plan.

I believe that any new year can be the year of whatever you choose it to be for you. Maybe that is what these ‘prophets’ are really ‘seeing’ – what they want the new year to be for them. In any case, since humans have absolute free-will, and God is not a Dictator or Manipulator, it’s obvious that each one of us has the freedom to declare any year (or any day for that matter) as the year we accomplish whatever we decide to accomplish, whether something as simple as losing a few pounds (simple decision, although not so simple to accomplish), or something more noble or spiritual.

Most people make New Year’s Resolutions on January 1, and then forget them by about January 7th, according to some study somewhere. Humans don’t seem to have much resolve or will power when it comes to these decisions. So, I don’t usually make New year’s resolutions for that reason. It just ends up being another of life’s failures, although usually soon forgotten.

For some reason, this year was different. Maybe it’s because we are both really tired of living year after year in the limitations imposed on our life by Karan’s illness; not to mention the financial limitations of living on Social Security. So, maybe out of desperation, Karan and I decided to make 2010 the year of Restoration for us. We decided this would be the year we quit waiting for healing to come, or for wealth to arrive from some unknown source, so we can finally enjoy the retired life we desire.

We made a conscious choice to make this our year to restore or recapture our health, prosperity, and our vision for our future. As of this date – 01/30/10 – we have already seen consistent results from the actions we have taken in pursuit of this goal. It has been amazing, even in this short time, how rapidly things have happened for us – how circumstances and planned situations have come together to move us each step closer to our goal of complete restoration. You’ll need to read the following entries for the details.

Each day, as we see the results of our efforts, we are greatly encouraged and excited about our future life & happiness together as a couple.

Note: in mid-May, 2010, we received some incredibly good news about the funds we need to fulfill our dream for our future. As the details unfold, we will be updating this page.
